AUN-DPPnet Successfully Concludes 9th Accessibility and Universal Design Training Course

The ASEAN University Network – Disability and Public Policy Network (AUN-DPPnet) successfully organized the 9th batch of the Accessibility and Universal Design Training  (AUDT) Course from 6 - 20 September 2025 at Universiti Malaya, Malaysia. The program brought together 13 outstanding Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) from across ASEAN, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Brunei, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Designed to strengthen accessibility and inclusivity, the AUDT course aimed to equip participants with essential knowledge and practical skills to address accessibility challenges faced by PwDs. The training emphasized disability-related policies, universal design principles, and the implementation of inclusive access in both public and private buildings.

A key feature of the program was the hands-on Access Audit conducted at Rawatan Utama Klinik Am (RUKA), Universiti Malaya Medical Centre. Participants assessed real-world accessibility barriers, proposed practical improvements, and later compiled their findings into comprehensive audit reports. These reports were formally presented at the conclusion of the program, demonstrating the participants’ growing expertise as future Access Inspectors.

Throughout the two-week training, participants benefited from sessions led by experts in universal design and inclusive development. The program also featured the Country Report Presentation, where participants shared insights on national policies and legislation related to PwDs, highlighted common accessibility challenges, and showcased initiatives undertaken by various stakeholders.

The AUN-DPPnet Secretariat remains optimistic that the AUDT Program will continue to nurture skilled PwD Access Inspectors who can drive meaningful change. By empowering PwDs to identify and address accessibility gaps, the initiative contributes significantly to improving infrastructure, promoting equal opportunities, and fostering inclusive environments across the ASEAN region.
