ASEAN University Network - Human Right Education (AUN-HRE) Regional Consultation on Developing a Framework

The ASEAN University Network-Human Right Education (AUN-HRE) and the Institute of Human Rights and Peace Studies, Mahidol University (IHRP), in collaboration with the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) had organised a Regional Consultation on Advancing a Framework for Human Rights-Based Universities in ASEAN during 22 - 23 August 2025 in Bangkok. The outcome of the consultation was to develop and promote a Framework for a Human Rights-Based Approach in Higher Education (HRB Framework) to guide universities across ASEAN in integrating human rights and peace principles across their governance, policies, teaching, and community engagement.
The AUN-DPPnet Director, Prof. Dr. Loh Sau Cheong, S.A.P was invited to participate in the consultation Forum to share about perspectives and good practices in integrating human rights principles into higher education context, especially for students with disabilities. The title of the presentation was: Ongoing efforts integrating the framework of Human rights-based Universities in higher education in Southeast Asia. In the presentation, Prof. Dr. Loh highlighted the Conventions on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), Incheon Strategy that emphasises on ‘Make the Right Real’, as well as AUN-DPPnet’s effort in promoting inclusive higher education and disability rights in ASEAN countries.
