On 1 March 2025, the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Dato’ Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamid officiated the launch of the Garis Panduan Kampus Inklusif OKU Universiti Malaya (UM-inOKU) or Universiti Malaya Inclusive Campus Guidelines for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs). The guidelines will serve as a primary reference for public universities in Malaysia in managing and supporting the needs of students and staff with disabilities. They cover key areas including governance, teaching and learning, support services, as well as campus accessibility and connectivity.
Universiti Malaya stated that the initiative will be further strengthened and elevated to the ASEAN level in conjunction with Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship. During the launch, the Deputy Prime Minister also highlighted that UM is the only university taking proactive steps in advocating for the rights and welfare of students and staff with disabilities. The initiative aligns with the Malaysia MADANI principle of Ihsan, which emphasizes compassion and inclusivity within higher education.
